Getting Back to Work
Finding Inspiration Through Doing
I sat down to write something poignant about photographic inspiration. About the frustration of feeling creatively stuck, the search for a spark, the longing for that elusive flow state where everything clicks.
Then I remembered what I already know… there’s no magic trick.
There’s no morning ritual, no gear upgrade, no perfect location that unlocks your best work. There’s just one thing — and it’s the thing none of us want to hear, in photography or in any other corner of our lives.
Set the next goal. Get back to work. Persevere until you get through the other side.
That’s it. That’s the whole secret.
So that’s what I’ve been doing. I’ve been working my way back through a long-term study I care deeply about — the San Joaquin Delta. The images here are from my third serious outing to the Delta last spring, and they’re already starting to feel like something. The three outings I’ve made, and the work they’ve produced, will form the foundation of my next photo book.
No grand revelation. Just showing up, making pictures, and trusting the process to lead somewhere worth going.
Thanks for reading, viewing, and being here.

So, true! BUt sometimes showing up is already difficult to do! Glad to see you back in the saddle!
I'm with you on just showing up, making images and trusting the process will lead you Benjamin - and I'm very interested to see how this unfolds for you. I've got to say I really like image 3 - the mattress in the foreground is just perfect!
